The old seer pondered for a moment, regarding the twins. They were identical in markings and size. He stretched forth a gentle, palsied hand which lifted a hatchling towards him. It eyed him cautiously and gnarled instinctively. With great care, he scored a mark into its tiny frill with his claw.

“There, this one is now Tua."

He made an identical mark on the other hatchling, though mirrored to the other frill. “And, this one is Teya.”

The elder returned the hatchlings to their nest. They soon laid to rest from their strenuous hatching. He smiled contentedly and drew deeply from his glass pipe, letting the visions of their futures come to him. They were not yet fully realised, their souls were in flux, and indeed their cognizance was still coming to them. Yet, the seer, drawing from his years and experiences, had a gut-feel. He did not know what would come of these hatchlings, but his wisdom was sufficient to show him they were unlike all hatchlings who came before, and they were destined for something he did not know, by way of birth.

And thereafter, for many suns, Tua and Teya grew into their own. Here, they quickly learned the natural rules which guided them. The pang of hunger and thirst, the pain of claws and teeth, and the peace of quiet and cool evening. These were the innate understandings they were born with, passed to them through their fathers, and all the generations of Tsaagans that had gone before.
